Above-Ground Equipment (AGE) Initiative
The Above-Ground Equipment Initiative is the result of an Advice Letter filed with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) by SCE that was approved by Resolution E-4329 on April 22, 2010. Effective August 2, 2010, new equipment on private property is now required to be installed above ground. In addition, applications for underground equipment on private property will no longer be accepted. The CPUC action also requires that design and installation of any above ground equipment shall comply with SCE's Distribution Manuals, Above-Ground Equipment Aesthetics Improvement Manual (AIM), land use laws and local ordinances; however, these ordinances cannot effectively or indirectly require undergrounding of such equipment.
