Constructing the Underground Portion in Chino Hills and Chino
Beginning in early August 2014, SCE and its contractors will begin activities necessary for constructing the Tehachapi project underground in portions of Chino Hills and Chino. Below is a description of the construction activities.
What you will see:
- Clearing of vegetation and any impeding structures within the project area
- Installation of chain-link fencing along the project area to ensure safety of the public and project personnel during construction
- Trenching and underground drilling
- Installation of underground electric transmission wires (500 kilovolt), conduit, vaults and related equipment
- Installation of two (2) transition stations to enable wires to go from overhead towers to underground conduits at each end of the underground area; each station will be approximately three (3) acres in size, with an 8-foot perimeter wall with some equipment approximately 133-ft in height
- Installation of two (2) new lattice steel transmission structures, one adjacent to each transition station described above, to feed the overhead wires into the stations
- Use of large construction equipment, including cranes and drilling equipment
- Periods of temporary lane closures and traffic control on:
- Chino Hills Pkwy (between Carbon Canyon Rd and Eucalyptus Ave) and;
- Pipeline Ave (between Chino Hills Pkwy and Eucalyptus Ave)
