Regulatory Information - Advice Letters

Advice Letters

An Advice Letter is a document submitted to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) requesting review of SCE’s request to change its tariffs in a manner previously authorized by statute or CPUC order, to conform the tariffs to the requirements of a statute or CPUC order, to request CPUC authorization to deviate from its tariffs, or to propose a new product or service. SCE may seek a rate increase by means of an advice letter only if use of an advice letter for this purpose is authorized by statute or CPUC order.

The advice letter process provides a quick and simplified review of the types of utility requests that are expected neither to be controversial nor to raise important policy questions.

Electric, gas, water, and telecommunication advice letters submitted to the CPUC are categorized below based on their current status.

To receive additional information about the advice letter process, a copy of a protest, protest reply, comments to a draft resolution, or to be placed on SCE’s service list (i.e., General Order 96-B) to receive copies of any category of advice letter (e.g., electric, gas, water or telecommunication), click here.

Formal Proceedings

In addition to advice letters, the CPUC maintains an official service list for all open, formal proceedings listing parties to the proceeding and all other persons who wish to receive documents that are served pursuant to Rule 1.9 of the Rules of Practice and Procedure. If you would like to be added to a service list for a particular proceeding, please e mail your information to: Process_Office@cpuc.ca.gov.

If you would like to follow a particular proceeding or any other issue before the CPUC, you may use the CPUC’s free subscription service. Sign up at: http://subscribecpuc.cpuc.ca.gov/.
