SCE’s Historic-Era Electrical Infrastructure Management Program (Program) was developed to establish a consistent protocol for identifying, reviewing, exempting, and treating SCE’s historic-era electrical infrastructure throughout our 50,000 square-mile service territory.

  • SCE maintains several classes of electrical infrastructure and has developed a strategy for identifying and determining which are historically significant.
  • SCE’s history and innovative achievements in electrical engineering and electrical system design helped industrialize southern California.
  • SCE maintains several classes of electrical infrastructure and has developed a strategy for identifying and defining the significant properties within each class or facility type.
  • SCE’s significant properties are managed according to the Program requirements including formal National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and California Register of Historical Resources (CRHR) evaluations when necessary.
  • One way to understand more about SCE historic build environment is to search through the Huntington Library’s thousands of historic photographs. Aside from major hydroelectric and power projects and facilities, the negatives, photographs, and albums found in the SCE digital library also depict employee gatherings, streetscapes, advertising, agriculture, exhibitions, small businesses, sports and recreational facilities, electrical appliances, education, and suburban development.
